7 Days in Greece

Your significant exploration begins with your arrival at the international airport of Athens where an experience professional driver will welcome you and transfer you to the city of Athens which has a distinct ambience all year round. You reach the heart of the town and you can spend the night in a recommended hotel to get some rest from your trip. In any case, the next day our driver will meet you at the lobby and will accompany you through the unique tour in Athens and Sounion.

A wonderful day has dawned and the sun vows to the glory of the famous Parthenon. The tour includes Athens, Riviera and Sounion and it starts with the unique Acropolis which hosts the Parthenon, Propylaea, Erechteion etc. You will visit the temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium, the historical center of the city, the Ancient and Roman Agora, the flea market in Monastiraki, Syntagma square (Constitution square) where you can see the change of guard and many other destinations within the city and we will end up on the hill of Lycabettus so that you can enjoy the breathtaking view. Driving along the Athens Riviera we will reach Cape Sounion where you can visit the temple of Poseidon that stands high and mighty against the wind and the saltiness of the sea. Lunch in a tavern by the sea to taste the local cuisine and then return to the hotel in Athens. In the afternoon, you can have the opportunity to walk through the narrow alleys of the old town of Athens.

Today you will leave Athens, travel along the seashore of Argosaronikos and cross the Isthmus of Corinth with the breathtaking view and begin the exploration of Classical Greece walking in Corinth that was the richest town of the ancient civilization and the place where Apostle Paul stayed for about 2 years during his stay in Greece; unique moment the visit to Acrocorinth with the stone alleys like the old times. We will continue along the seashore and then high on the mountains of Argolis to reach the sanctuary of the ancient healer Asclepius. You will visit the most ancient theater in the world, the theater of Epidaurus that is open every summer offering exquisite performances. In continuation will head west towards Nafplion where we will spend the night. In the afternoon you can wander in the narrow alleys and taste the local cuisine.

A wonderful day has dawned in the town of Nafplion, the first capital of liberated Greece before it was transferred to Athens. The town was a focal point for the Greek revolution and the liberation of Greece from the Ottoman conquerors after 400 years of slavery. You will have the chance to explore the Byzantine and Venetian castles of the town that are located on the slopes of the mountain. You will visit Mycenae to discover the history that inspired Homer so that he could write the famous Iliad and Odyssey. The Cyclopean walls of the abandoned palace of Agamemnon will surprise you presenting the dynamics of the town while the findings in the museum will remind you that the Mycenaean civilization was the last phase of the Bronze Age and the benchmark for the development of the world’s civilization. You will wander in the famous vineyard of Nemea where you can savor the local wine in a vinery whose aroma and taste drive crazy every connoisseur.

Finishing our day, we travel along the Corinthian Gulf to spend the night in Olympia.

The smell of wild flowers and the first smoky smell of freshly baked bread in the wooden ovens excites the sensations. They influence the unsuspected visitor and stimulate euphoria for the tour in the green olive groves. Another day has started with the first rays of the sun playing hide and seek among the ancient columns of Olympia. Here the Olympian flame taught people to warm their hearts thousands of years ago by ceasing every act of war. It is the sacred moment that you will wander in the birthplace of the Olympic Games. The ruins of the place prove the importance of the area and the role of Olympia in Ancient Greece. Our experienced guide gives you the chance to feel the rythm of this sacred place, to understand the value of the games and perceive their path during the centuries stepping the same ground where the unbelievable legends of Greek Mythology about Zeus were born. The archeological site and the findings in the museum are priceless treasures and one of the most important bases of the contemporary civilization.

Completing your tour, we will head north seeing the view of the wonderful landscape of the Corinthian Gulf. We have arrived at Delphi for the night.

The first rays of the sun penetrate the vulnerable morning mist as they travel indolently their brightness on the slopes of Parnassos aiming at illuminating the ruins of the ancient temple of Apollo and offer them more radiance. The panoramic view of the Corinthian Gulf with the countless olive groves of the land of Amfissa resembles a carpet stretched out awaiting your glimpse to step it. The guide travels you back in time reviving the history with his vivid narration and the profound knowledge of the Ancient Greek civilization.  The archeological site of the old town of Delphi is the second to Athens most popular in Greece. The epicenter of Amphictyony League or Delphic Amphictyony, commercial, economic, religious and cultural center of Ancient Greece. During the course of history, it attracted a countless number of believers. All kinds of people from all over the known world arrived here to be granted oracles. Kings, generals, lords, politicians and lay people bringing with them presents to offer the God Apollo begged for his favor. The dynamics of the town consisted the “Apple of discord” and a reason for wars. Conquerors and barbarians vandalized the wealth of the town and everyone stole something from the glory of Delphi. The last oracle was granted in 4^th century AD and then the oracle ceased to operate forever according to the command of the Byzantine emperor who set Christianity as the official religion of Greece. Still, it left behind the history and the treasures of World Heritage that cannot be described but they await impatiently for you to visit them.

It is time to head north, we will drive among the historical mountains where the heroes of the battles of the Greek revolution excelled and in continuation, we will see the beautiful view of the blooming field of Thessaly. We have arrived at Kalambaka for the night.

Behind the village of Kalambaka, the shapeless shadows of the night disappear with the first light. They cede control to the huge, imposing, dark colored rocks which seem to be nailed on the ground falling vigorously from the sky. What an incredible landscape! Which human mind motivated the first people to climb on a place that there is no way to be tamed?

The monasteries of Meteora just outside Kalambaka date back to the 10^th century AD. They are an exquisite representative sample of Christian faith that flourished, men excelled as human beings and proved that they have the ability to grow their potential as long as they respect and love nature.  The eremites of the first monasteries consist a point of reference for the faith and dedication to Christianity. A Sacred column for the support of Byzantium that under imperial decree had been in favor of Christianity since the birth of the empire. The monasteries are considered treasures of relics, icons and canons that exist nowhere in the world and have become Monuments of World Heritage by UNESCO. Today only 6 monasteries run and attract visitors from all over the world, irrespective of religion. The monks and nuns hold dearly the symbol of faith and are admired and respected by all visitors. The morning tour is magical and the view is breathtaking. It is never enough to stare at the endless Greek nature looking here and there for a better spot, for a better rock or a hill where you can see everything. The smell of the roast meat from the taverns travels to stimulate our senses. Going back to the point of departure we will visit Thermopile to revive the legend of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans. We will listen to the voices of the warriors, the galloping of horses and the sound of swords that overlap in the heat of the battle.

Taking the way back, it will be quite late when we arrive at the airport. The trip of 7 days in Greece may have finished but you take with you the experiences of a lifetime, the grandeur of a civilization, the legends of our country and we let you go looking forward to seeing you again soon.
